SKATEBOARDING, JUST LIKE ANY OTHER INDUSTRY, HAS A LOT OF INCOME DISPARITIES AND INEQUALITIES. You've got your one percenters, but for just about everyone else there is a need to work a more conventional 9–5 outside of skateboarding. To “make it” as a pro skateboarder you have to be willing to accept that it may not be the most financially-stable avenue to pursue. For a lot of us, skateboarding is the “third shift” that happens once you are done with our jobs and side hustles. But at the same time, it’s those other life obligations that make skating so much more meaningful and enjoyable. Here's a little glimpse of what the Traffic crew is doing during their first, second and third shifts.

Hiroki Muraoka "Third Shift" Video Part and Interviews

Vague Mag interviewed John Valenti, Pat Stiener and Hiroki Muraoka on Traffic Skateboards new release 'Third Shift' AND uploaded Hiroki part from the video.

V: How was it filming in the US compared with Japan? Do you see any similarities between East Coast spots and Tokyo?

H: I think that New York and Tokyo have a lot of similar style spots so I was able to do the same style skating, but it’s so much more chill in New York compared to Tokyo because the kick out in Tokyo is so quick.

V: What were some of your highlights from staying in and travelling around the US?

H: We went to the beach one day and a random dude sold cocktails there, he gave me free cocktails which were delicious. We then took a boat ride, that was super fun.
